Mar 2nd - FUALL had a full lineup v Winking Lizards, on paper it never looked like WL had a chance, even with Tyler Thompson and another good sub, but FUALL showed their class by playing down to the D division level for most of the first half and that accounted for the 4-4 score...that and a very shaky looking Culligan in goal. Eventually they found a few more and begun to put some distance between the goals and despite a few more lapses created enough good chances to pop home a few..total was 11-5 in the end. ~ Who knows what divisions they'll have next session but this team should stay intact and move up to a level where its more than a run about every week!
FUFC played Gunners who despite a real goalie looked as able as they always do, so FU had their hands full, went down 4-0 before half way thru the 1st half allowing shots on Carlos he was never going to reach, and then when it was 5-1 you'd have thought the game was over - FU rallied, they got a decent man for man sub rotation going, did a better job of forcing the play and won a few more balls, and even got close enough to score before eventually some started to go in, got it to 6-4, then a quick exchange had it at 7-5 then gave up another in the last few mins..., a decent work out, two subs, Adam & Adam a big help and welcome back to play again - Makan was AWOL again and with Ryan McK out it perhaps wasn't our strongest line-up, which it needs to be v Fish&CoGunners.
Feb 24th - FUFC played Upper 90 and slapped in four quick goals in a reversal of past fortunes, and when it was 6-2 despite 18 mins left you'd have thought the three points were in the bag for this one....think again, it was too gruesome to watch, let alone recount, FU go down 7-6 with 12 seconds left Feb 23rd - FUALL After realizing that our eyes are too old to distinguish red from orange, FUALL changes to the whites and puts in a bunch of goals with the mercy rule coming into play a couple of times. FUALL still lackadaisical on defense and letting in unnecessary goals. Lets clean things up on defense and get a clean sheet for the next game. Feb 23rd - Flash II Doug Dosky nets a nice one to tie the game at 1-1. Despite getting the better of play, Flash go down 3-1 by end of the half. Flash pick up the intensity to battle back to 3 all in the second half with nice goals from Greg A. and Roberto in the final 10 minutes. Flash get a breakaway with about 15 seconds remaining and look set to get the winner but their keeper snuffs out the attack and the game ends in a draw. Feb 3rd - FUFC, winless so far (another first!), took on Whistlepigs. Picked up Ryan Fairchild and Chad Simkins to field a full two line roster and actually played much smarter football than the past couple of games. The defensive effort was much better but an inability to get the ball up the field, then shooting strait at their keeper or missing an obvious pass all conspired to keep the game close. Whistlepigs were always within a goal, took advantages of a couple of mistakes (giving them the ball twice for simple smash-ins negged out all the fine work that preceded it!) and took advantage of FU conceding field space, but it was always close and in the last 10 mins FU twice pulled back goals and it ends tied at 6-6 Feb 2nd - FUALL had a full lineup thanks to a couple of subs (Marlon, Josh Martin and Ryan McK) but never looked impressive versus a ragtag group of no-hopers - ended 8-3, FUALL should have had a dozen more and any basic defense wouldn't have given up a goal either! still, a nice runaround and no-one got hurt! Jan 18 - FUALL took on 86'rs and had a full roster this week including Dougie Hoover and Tom Rozsits; Romeo still has a sore wrist so Mike D volunteered to take the gloves and if he'd had any decent defense would hardly of seen the ball. FUALL clearly had a dominating team but as usual played to the level of the opposition and squandered the possession they enjoyed, which was pretty much 80% of the game....time after time we'd be in the area to score but hit high, wide or strait at their keeper...that said final was 8-3, thereby missing the prediction we'd win every game by 7 goals ~ its a ropey division and I doubt they'll come any easier than this!
Jan 13th - Flash II had their opening game V Beef & Noodles, and almost scored as many goals in this one match as they did in all games last season! ~ Despite a few MIA's and with Sticky still limping around you might have thought F.II would find it difficult to find form, but with Quested subbing they had two full lines and it was never going to be close on a nite when the lads moved the ball around well, took advantage of the inferior opposition and clinically dispatched goals with monotonous regularity - ended 14-3! Jan 12th - FUALL had their opening game last nite and in a shameful display missed scores of chances throughout the entire debacle....that said they popped in 10, gave up one and then only after Romeo had to relinquish the gloves with a sore wrist, otherwise got out without injury, and with a couple of hangovers almost cured - Joe Fullen, Jonsey, Heart Attack Lewis, Garvin, Dr Mark, Eduardo, Mike M & Mike D, Romeo and Terry may look like a ropey squad but in this Division should easily fulfill the prophecy below*...squad also includes first game MIA's Dougie, Jimmy and Tom R, if we fulfill the prediction I'm asking Taf for our money back! - until then most of you still owe!
FUFC took on Capitals and looked overpowered early on, somehow managed to give up only one and with 13 mins left started marking up better and put in a good 12 mins of play - still gave up one but felt they'd turned the tide and looking forward to the 2nd half when it would all pay off with some goals....but it didn't, gave up three in the first couple of mins and that's all she wrote.....gor blimey, not like there's any excuse, had Javier and Greg Arenstein subbing for MIA's Makan, RyanMcK, JB , Matt and Tony - these guys took the fall this week - Spermie, Russ, Todd, Sasha, Steve, RyanP, Carlos and Andy "damn you Quested" Holtom
Jan 4th 2010
FUFC play Arsenal in a repeat of last weeks Final match up - nice touch that, just like Soccer First they give you back to back weeks versus the same opposition! -Still, maybe this week we'll catch the renamed "Gunners" napping. @ Jan 6 - last nites match up would have been more favorable if the Skipper had known Sasha was in Miami and Makan on his couch...so with a line up than included a badly hobbling Holtom and blistering speed from the likes of Aaron, Spermie and Quested, the Gunners boys were shaking in their boots! - FU took it easy and spotted them a 5-0 lead by half time...in truth Gunners should have had 6, but Carlos was doing his usual in goal while FU made some decent chances but always seemed to hit it strait at their keeper or find another way to squander opportunities, it was allowing ourselves to get caught oui-tnumbered in the back that was at fault. JB brought along a buddy, Dan, good player and with 25 year less age than Quested should have been more active, but it was a nite when the ball just didn't co-operate and despite FU keeping the 2nd half scoreline to 2-2, it was mostly thanks to Gunners taking the foot off the pedal as they watched us miss almost every chance we made, and Carlos stopping the stuff most keepers never touch. The FUFC roster is looking good this session but when missing Matt, Ryan McK, Sasha & Makan from any lineup it will be a tough nite. Three of the new teams in this Division played after us, Whistle Pigs took down Capitals fairly comprehensively but Capitals looked to be missing a couple of their better guys from last session, while the other two teams shouldn't pose much trouble for a well equipped FUFC squad.
FUALL have a BYE, another week to ponder why we're seeded with the same hapless bunch of wankers we played last session... to prove we 'belong' in a higher division *my prediction is FUALL will not only win every game, they will do it by more than a 7 goal margin, every game. (last session was marked by lacklustre turnouts, a goalie who snapped his leg, heroics from Romeo and a couple of brilliant performances...the rest was shite)
Flash II have a BYE week - Sticky has the usual suspects coming back and has stepped up the roster over the past month.
Flash Open had a good last season with much better turnouts; competition for playing time with a big roster does get the best out of players and help Managers upgrade...Flash have been promoted to highest Open divisionn this session...good luck and send us your 30+ cast off's when they're "ready"!
Thanks - Terry

| The Flash and Flash II finished up the fall outdoor season with some serious future planning required....... a lack of consistency in showing up each week meant what little team cohesion we sometimes exhibited was rarely repeated, both rosters could do with some upgrading if they expect to compete in the same Divisions again.
Indoor 30+ at Soccer First has NO FLASH teams this winter session! - Anyone wanting to play in the sessions starting in January should find a few other guys and contact Terry or Stick with a plan to help develop a team, or maybe consider joining forces with other squads - in the A division Club Columbus will be seeking a few good men while Whistle Pigs are considering moving over to AllStars.

| Feb 28 - FU had the early one v Pounders who despite having improved their roster considerably the past two sessions were not going to have a good morning, there was really only one team going to win this one - fielding two full lines of warmed up old men at 7:30am on a Sunday shows a type of dedication to our sport we should keep to ourselves! ~ Rainer subbing gave FU the full line up, Diego back and had a good game, Matt despite getting a crushed ankle was all over the place with Souch in the middle and helped keep the ball moving where the forwards, perhaps in an inelegant fashion, did their bit with Jimmy and Terry bagging 6 of the 8 or 9 total - Bruce, Smitty, BBarr, Spermie, Jon2 (scored a deuce too) & Drew in goal completed the line up - (OK, someone is missing....)
Flash took on Horsemen, another result you'd have thought beyond doubt, but when this scribe left for church it was still close - but, surely, Flash won
Feb 21st - Flash played Blackbush and although it was tied at 1-1 then 2-2 at the start of the 2nd half, a burst of activity saw Flash get it to 5-2 and never look like losing from there...wore out the Blackbush guys all of whom had to don their Shamrock Rovers shirts for a gentle thrashing in the next game
FUFC win 6-0, maybe it was more, never gave up a goal, should have scored several more, plenty of hustle wore down an aging Rovers squad who never sustained any threat despite playing tough when around the ball, but FU won the 50-50 balls, came away from tackles with the ball more often and with two full lines taking quick subs had this one all wrapped up early and pressed it to the end.
Feb 7th - Flash lost this week, scored first but got behind after that, was a close
game the whole way, they had two full lines with Souch, Matt and
Spermie fresh off the earlier game, Ruben did a great job in goal, at times the movement was good with Troy, Kenny McM and Bucket getting forward well, but a lack of finesse or luck in front of the goal meant it ended 5-4 (I
think!), Internationals still unbeaten
FUFC was 0-0 at the half v Shamrocks,
tight game and there was no score till mid-way thru the 2nd half when Carlos
(the Sth African one, guesting for FU in goal) brought it half way up our half, hit a
long ball to Jimmy G in the other box who took it in the gut, turned as it dropped and
poked it home.... 3 mins later we give up one with poor marking and its
all tied....but pounced on them again, scrambled one home and there's
about 8mins left....Holtom then gets a red card with 6.5 mins left,
hacked someone from behind, no-where near anything - just felt like
tripping someone from behind I guess! - ref gives a 5 min hard penalty
(no subs even if there's a goal) but the lads hang on somehow despite a
shot by Big Ben who was the Rovers GK, he hit it from about the half way line, it came down
off the crossbar and appeared to hit the line, or at least a part of it, and bounced out!* ....FU
win 2-1 (it sort of reminded me of the shot that gifted England the World Cup in 1966, no-one was really sure where it landed, but only one team was going to be happy!)
Jan 30 - Flash beat Rovers 6-5; had two full lines, Keith & Matt helped was a comment I heard; Greg, Eddie, Kenny McM, Bucket, Carlos (GK), Joseph, Bob, Rob, Joe B, Jeff L, Roberto & Troy is a pretty good line up, Stick still nursing a bad peg and just about every team with at least one loss means everyone is still in it! - FUFC had their first defeat in about two seasons - lost to a Rowdies team who did just enough while FU missed scores of chances with weak, wide, high and other useless shots - no killer instinct on this day and lose 5-2..., nevertheless a flashclash contingent made the trek to Fado for the United romp over Arsenal, at least that was a a great game!
Jan 24 - FUFC, with a 7:30am kick-off always looked capable of seeing off Gigondas but as usual took their own sweet time in showing any real dominance in the scoreline, with onty a few mins to go in the first half FU led 2-1, had missed some apparently easy tap ins, were dominating possession, but the score remained adamantly close. Didn't last, once we'd got the ball free flowing around, early releases giving the recipient good time on the ball it all started to gel, Kenny McMahon got in the way of several good passes and had at least a hat-trick, Souch discovered if he kept them low they went in, Matt's hustle ensured Gigs had little peace and even a few sloppy defensive making situations couldn't effect the outcome, was 10 or 11 - 3
Flash had two full lines, always seemed in control and easily dispatched a yellow team (Apostasy...rhymes with Apology, a more reflective moniker) even after Troy switched sides - the duct taped GK (Tom) was doing a good job of keeping it reasonable but Flash always seemed to have plenty of bodies around the ball, scrambled in a few goal mouth melee's, eventually!, and knocked in enough others that it was just a question of trying to play smart ball and look good. With Greg Arenstein, Matty, even Sticky joining Roberto, Eddie and Bob P the supply to the front men was thorough, Souch, Bucket and Rob had their fill, Ken McMahon was still on fire too, and the final was..?..cant recall!, but wasn't close!
The 2010 40 season finally got underway with another FlashClash
FUFC, holding the Champions title, took on Flash this past Sunday Jan 17th and looked to have their hands full - Flash put plenty of pressure on the ball, passed it well without rushing things and for most of the first half looked the better team, but for Kenny and his usual FU heroics of slapping away balls destined for the nett and even getting down on the floor a couple of times it could easily have been an upset in the making - Drew B at the other end had little to do early on but the last several mins of the first half saw FU start to find some form, but Drew and his defense managed to keep it clean and the half ended 1-1. Taking the field for the 2nd half it looked like more of the same, but FU was applying massive pressure and getting a lot more bodies up the field, Drew meantime was saving everything, caught applause from both benches for a string of superb saves but when one came out deep and Marcus slammed it hard & high over everyone with the goalie blindsided it found the net for a two pointer and the wind went out of the Flash sails. FU, uncharacteristically as they usually find it hard to press an advantage, had a good sub rotation working by now and pressed on, fluid movement both on and off the ball was getting the Flash knickers in a twist and after a series of good moves and finishes FU found themselves with a cushion and to cap it off Mark scored another two pointer.... and that, was all she wrote! ~ Despite a lopsided final score the Flash squad played some of their best football at times and should do well this session if they get a full squad out each week, Eddie G had an inspired performance out of the back coming forward, Joe B showed an ability to get up and back with speed, a rarity in 40 , and if Joseph H, Rob S and Bucket find any scoring form Flash should be there at the end of the season.
